Hakone Komagatake Ashi no SORA

The summit of Komagatake, Hakone’s second-highest peak, will reopen this spring as Hakone Komagatake Ashinosora after a stunning renovation!

From 723 meters at the shores of Lake Ashinoko to the 1,327-meter summit of Komagatake, the approximately 600-meter elevation difference can be covered in about seven minutes by ropeway. From the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Lake Ashinoko, the outer rim of the Hakone caldera, Mount Fuji, Sagami Bay, Suruga Bay, and even distant landmarks like Yokohama Landmark Tower and TOKYO SKYTREE.

The summit now features a 400-square-meter observation deck, an extended deck that feels as though you’re floating above Lake Ashinoko, a giant photo frame called “Fuji no GAKU” where you can take pictures alongside Mount Fuji, and “Umi no NIWA,” a set of net benches where you can relax and enjoy the pristine air and sky at an altitude of 1,356 meters. These additions allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in Hakone’s iconic views of Lake Ashinoko and Mount Fuji.

While visiting Hakone Komagatake, don’t forget to pay your respects at Hakone Mototsumiya Shrine, the heavenly shrine that serves as the inner sanctum of Hakone Shrine. This sacred location offers the chance to pray to both Kamiyama and Mount Fuji, leaving you with a feeling of enhanced fortune.

Observation deck & Extended deck

Right outside the summit station, the observation deck spans about 400 square meters, extending out to provide panoramic views of Lake Ashinoko, the outer rim of the Hakone caldera, and Suruga Bay in the distance. The extended deck, raised three meters above the ground, offers a unique sense of floating as you take in the breathtaking scenery, amplifying the emotional impact of the stunning views.
