ONSEN

What is the difference between a public hot bath, SENTO and a hot spring, ONSEN?

onsen

Public baths use heated water. It’s not so different from taking a shower at home. Hot springs, however, use naturally heated water rising out from the Earth’s crust. Hot spring water is rich in minerals, so it’s said to be good for both the body and soul. Japan has many volcanoes. That’s why it has a lot of hot springs.
